West Coast Environmental Unit

The environment, environmental health and veterinary care within the West Coast Environmental Unit region provides municipal residents with services about the living environment in accordance with current legislation. The activities of the Environmental Health Service are subject to the West Coast Supervisory Board, which is a municipal body that includes representatives from the partner municipalities of Närpes, Kaskö, Kristinestad, Vörå, Malax, Korsnäs and Korsholm (Närpiö, Kaskinen, Kristiinankaupunki, Vöyri, Maalahti, Korsnäs and Mustasaari).

The municipalities of Korsholm, Korsnäs, Kristinestad, Kaskö and Närpes (Mustasaari, Korsnäs, Kristiinankaupunki, Kaskinen and Närpiö) have a collaboration in environmental protection and their activities fall under the West Coast Supervisory Board’s environmental section.

The West Coast Environmental Unit functions as a permit and supervisory authority and works to promote the health of the population and the individual, as well as to prevent, reduce and eliminate such factors that occur in the living environment that can cause a sanitary nuisance or environmental disturbance. The activities of the organisation include licensing, supervision, counselling, the presentation of information and sampling.
