Library card
Library card application form:
To borrow library material you need a library card. The first card is free of charge.
In order to get a library card you need to fill out an application form with your personal information, and show an identity card with a picture to the library staff. Children under the age of 15 can have their own library card with the permission of their parent or guardian. Organizations get library cards with the written permission of a contact person.
The library card is for personal use only. You are responsible for all library material borrowed on your card. As a guardian or contact person you are responsible for all the material borrowed using cards you have given your permission to. This also applies to loans made during school hours.
You need to show your library card every time you wish to borrow library material.
Inform the library if you change your name or contact information.
If you lose your card, you must inform the library so the account can be temporarily closed. When you have informed the library, you are no longer responsible for loans made on your card.
If you lose your card you need to pay a small fee to get a new card.
You can get a PIN-code to your library card. With the library card and PIN-code, you can log in to the web library fredrika.finna.fi. In the web library, you can check your contact information, loans and reservations, renew your loans, reserve library material, and cancel your reservations. With the library card and PIN-code you can also borrow digital material, and use the self-service machines.
Borrowing and returning material
The loan period of the library material is 28 or 14 days. The library has the right to change the loan periods.
Loan periods:
- 28 days: books, audio books, CD:s, and DVD:s
- 14 days: magazines, sports equipment, and board games
You shall return your loans at the latest when the library closes on the due date. You can return your loans to any library in the municipality of Korsholm or to the library bus. Please observe that if you return your loans to the library’s return hatch, the return date will then be the date when the library opens again.
You can renew your loans if they are not reserved by someone else. You can renew your loans 5 times: via fredrika.finna.fi, by phone, e-mail, or at any of the libraries’ service desks.
You can reserve material that someone else has borrowed. You then get a message when you can retrieve the material from the library or the library bus. You can reserve material via fredrika.finna.fi, by phone, e-mail or at the service desks of the libraries of Korsholm.
If you are the guardian of a child, you can link their library card to your own. You can then from your own account in the web library fredrika.finna.fi keep track of the child’s loans, and renew material that expires.
You must replace material that has been damaged, lost or not returned. The library does not refund the replacement fee if you find the material at a later time.
Late fees
If you do not return your loans on time, you have to pay a fee.
If you are under 15 years old, you do not get fees, but you should still return your loans at the latest when the library closes on the due date.
This is how the fees work:
- If the material you have borrowed is reserved, you will get the first fee the day after the due date, or immediately when someone else reserves your late material. You get a second fee 14 days after the due date.
- If the material is not reserved, you will get the first fee 14 days after the due date. You get a second fee 28 days after the due date.
- If you do not return the material after the second fee, you need to pay the book’s replacement fee.
If you have more than 25 euros in fees, you cannot borrow more library material before paying off the debt.
Reminder for loans soon to expire
You can ask the library to send you a reminder of loans that are about to expire. An e-mail will then be sent to you a couple of days before the due date. You can also get a message to your e-mail regarding material that your children have borrowed.
Please observe that this is an extra service that the library offers. Although the service is activated, it is still your responsibility to keep track of the due dates of your loans. You can check the due date on the receipt you get when borrowing, by logging in to fredrika.finna.fi or by contacting the library.
